Yahoo Search has replaced Google as the search engine of choice for CNN and SI.com. Previously, the sites in question were using Google's search engine. Suddenly, Yahoo appears to be on a hot streak in the search industry.
Earlier today, it was announced that Yahoo would be partnering with Plaxo's Contacts software to provide desktop search capability for users of Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, which is what Contacts was designed for. Combine that with the news of Yahoo scooping Yahoo for search engine rights to two of the most popular websites on the internet, and Yahoo appears to be having a very nice day.
This move now gives Yahoo complete control of CNN's and SI's search presence. Because not only does Yahoo power their searches, the two Time Warner-owned business have had their keyword based advertising hosted by Yahoo-owned Overture since 2002.
SearchEngineJournal points out that this may be the first major media presence to switch from Google to Yahoo's search engine. An interesting tidbit about this news is that Google supplies search results and ads for AOL, another Time Warner-owned business.
