By taking GoogleNews headlines and converting them through a Treemap algorithm, Newsmap.com has brought the content at GoogleNews to life, visually.
A Treemap is "a visualization algorithm that helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by (an) aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information."
As reported on BattelleMedia.com, Newsmap has toggles that let you choose which global area you would like to concentrate on as well as what topic of news is displayed. The Newsmap topics correspond with the Google News topics.
The goal of Newsmap is to give users "a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe."
